Full description
Department of National Heritage, 19/04/1993, Bideford, 242 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV338459.
Public House. Early 19th century, the rear part either extended or rebuilt during the early-mid 19th century. Solid rendered walls. Slate roof, hipped front and back; front part has pierced, red crested ridge-tiles. Rendered chimneys on right side-wall of each part of building, and on front gable of rear part. Two storeys at front, 3 at rear; 3-window range, the middle second-storey window blind. Round-arched centre doorway with chamfered raised surround; 20th century six-panelled door, fanlight with radial bars. Windows have 6-paned sashes. Moulded eaves cornice. Right side-wall has several small windows with glazing-bars, including a Yorkshire sash. Rear elevation (clearly visible from Bideford Bridge) has windows with barred sashes: 8 over 8 panes in second storey, 6 over 6 panes in third storey. Moulded eaves cornice, continued round side-wall facing bridge. Interior not inspected. The building occupies an important position at the east end of Bideford Bridge.

The Swan Inn, Torrington Street. Early 19th century. Stucco, 2 storey, 2 windows, sash, with glazing bars. Door with 6 sunk panels and radial-bar fanlight. Blank panel at first floor above entrance. Rear face, to river, 3 storey, 2 windows, flush-frame sash, with glazing bars. North face with sliding casements, at upper floors, with glazing bars. In important position.
