Full description

Department of Environment, 1972, Honiton, 32 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV337401.

Dated 21/03/1972. Numbers 39 and 41, New Street, Honiton. 17th century or earlier cottages, 2 storey, plastered walls, thatched roof. 3 2-storey splayed bays mainly with original leaded casements. Flat hoods on shaped brackets to doorways. Interior: door with 4 fielded panels with remains of h hinges, wide boarded doors with wrought hinges on lugs. 1st floor, 2-panel doors, massive chamfered roof principal. Star as oldest cottages of this type in the town.

There are some good small groups of listed buildings in New Street including 39 and 41, a small group of 17th century thatched cottages, probably the oldest of this type in the town, and retaining some early features. Maps.
