Name:Cairn adjacent to the Stall Moor stone row, Cornwood

Summary

A disturbed stony round cairn on the slopes of Erme Plains 20 metres west of a stone row. This large cairn has an overall spread of 15 metres but much of its central fabric has been removed or remodelled into a hollowed structure giving the appearance of a crater with an internal diameter of 6.5 metres. The base of a rectangular shelter 2 metres by 1.2 metres has been constructed to the north of the crater within the outer fabric of the cairn.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950/1977, SX66SW1 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV156203.

(08/05/1950). Has a very large hollow in the centre. Diameter 15m, height 1m.
(10/08/1977) SX 6352 6495. A round cairn, measuring 13.8 to 14.6m diameter and 1.0m high. It lies on a false crest, adjacent to a stone row, SX 66 NW 20, and just above the River Erme, at 380m above OD, is constructed of small boulders, and has a central hollow, 0.7m deep. In fair condition, though a small shelter has been built on its north side. 1:10 000 Survey revised on MSD.
