Full description
Department of Environment, 1972, Honiton, 16 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV337401.
Dated 21/03/1972. The New Dolphin Hotel. A well known coaching inn. 3 storey, 4 windows, sash, now without glazing bars. 18th century plastered front with wide porch, with elongated tuscan columns, to central carriage way. Added square ground floor bays. 2nd floor band. Parapet. Slates. Originally the medieval manor house of Courtenays.

The west end of High Street is the commercial heart of the town with some residential accommodation over shops and behind the main frontage. The shops are punctuated by former coaching inns and 19th century banks. The New Dolphin Hotel is an early 19th century coaching inn, its character diminshed by later modifications. The statutory list regards Numbers 103 to 107 (odd), New Dolphin Hotel, Numbers 111 to 115 (odd), and Numbers 119 to 125 (odd) as a cohesive group. Maps.
