Notification that 26 and 26a Fore Street have been removed from the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.
A full inspection of 26 and 26a Fore Street has demonstrated that the building has lost such a high proportion of historic fabric and been so altered that its claims to special interest are much reduced. It no longer meets the criteria for listing and should be removed from the List.
There are some surviving features that provide evidence for the building’s post -medieval origins, including the length of timber-framed wall, a possible 17th century window, and part of one 17th century roof truss, they are fragmentary survivals. The modernisation of the building has resulted in the almost complete removal of its historic fixtures and fittings, including the roof timbers, representing the loss of a significant proportion of original fabric. The historic planform is not legible due to the degree of alteration. Whilst of undoubted interest as a house with 16th or 17th century origins, this does not outweigh the loss of historic fabric from this period.
