Full description

Hut 9 revealed no trace of habitation. Natural rock had been used for sides in three places.

Hut 9 is sub-circular in shape and measures 3.0 meters in diameter; with walls 0.45 meters high. It is discernible as a slight platform and a surviving ring composed of natural boulders and large recumbent stones. There are no visible facing stones and several stones on the north-west side appear to be displaced. There is a possible entrance on the south-western side, but no jambs or lintel remain. No internal features are visible. The circle shows evidence of slight visitor erosion.

Hut circle terraced into the hill slope. Circle is of simple plan and single orthostat walling type. The interior measures 3.0 meters in diameter and is defined by a 1.5 meter wide wall standing up to 0.45 meters high. A 1.0 meter wide south-west facing gap in the surrounding wall may represent an original doorway. A 2.0 meter wide and 0.3 meter high lynchet linking this hut to hut (PRN 43906) may represent the site of an internal partition within this enclosure. This hut was excavated by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1894, but no traces of human occupation were found. Other details: MPP/140314 11/1/1996.
