Full description

'Holy Ghost and St Katherine's Chapel (Site of) is marked on the Ordnance Survey Town map of 1855-1895.

Laithwaite, J. M. W., 1986, Devon Religious Houses Survey: House of the Warland, Totnes (Report - Survey). SDV337551.

A hospital was built here in the 13th century which, from at least the mid 14th century was run by the Trinitarians. The property was granted to the Vicars Choral of Exeter Cathedral in 1509 which appears to have marked its end as a religious institution.
None of the site is known to survive except for the north gable wall of No. 10 Warland which appears to have been the free-standing south wall of a buildng originally fronting Warland, on eht site now occupied by Nos 8 and 9. The wall, which has the remains of three lancet windows, is possibly the remains of the chapel rather than the dwelling house or hospital.
