An irregularly shaped pit circa 30m across is identifiable as an earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
The visible earthwork corresponds closely with a quarry depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch Second Edition map, annotated as Old Quarry.
The pit is not depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map which might support the interpretation that the pit was excavated and ceased to be used between circa 1880 and 1906. However, it is possible that the pit predates the first edition map.
The pit visible on the lidar derived images appears larger than that depicted on the Second Edition map, possibly indicative of continued use. However, due to the density of tree cover in this area the resolution of the available lidar data is too low for a confident transcription and the pit was not transcribed as part of the survey.
