Name:Damaged hut in settlement north-east of Sharpitor

Summary

Not recorded in 1951 by the Ordnance Survey , this hut was noted by Butler (1994). Simple plan and rubble bank walling. Internal diameter measures 4.7 metres. Defined on west side by wall 1.6 metres high, 0.6 metres high. East side has seen limited damage and edge of interior is visible as a slight lynchet, 0.2 metres high. Doorway to south-south-east clearly defined by upright slabs on western edge (1992 survey).

Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., MPP 129182, 7/5/1992 (Report - Survey). SDV277946.

(SX 5615 7064) Hut circle terraced into hillslope. Simple plan and rubble bank walling. Internal diameter measures 4.7 metres. Defined on west side by wall 1.6 metres high, 0.6 metres high. East side has seen limited damage and edge of interior is visible as a slight lynchet, 0.2 metres high. Doorway to south-south-east clearly defined by upright slabs on western edge.

(14/06/2019) Condition assessed by volunteer recorder as very good; no damage agents affecting site. The Dartmoor Preservation Association regularly visit this site, clearing bracken cover. Cattle, sheep and ponies are free to roam over this ground, but appear to be causing little visible damage.
