Summary

Large hut, excavated in the late 19th century; part of the settlement to the south of the road. Measures 9.3 metres in diameter internally and walls survive to a height of 0.5 metres and width of 1.9 metres. An entrance gap exists on the southern side of the circle. Hut circle X is a large double walled type, composed of turf covered stones, measuring 10.5 metres in diameter, with a 2.0 metre wide wall, remaining to a height of 0.65 metres. The condition of circle is very good, with an entrance on the south-east side marked by two stones forming the side of the doorway still standing in position.

(Visited 1994) Hut circle (SX 5561 7497) set within a large partially enclosed settlement. Terraced into the hill slope and is of the simple plan and double orthostat walling type. Interior measures 10.0 metres in diameter and is defined by a 2.0 metre wide wall standing up to 1.0 metres high. A south-facing gap in the surrounding wall is lined with slabs on both sides and represents the position of a doorway.
A 2.5 by 2.3 by 0.2 metre deep hollow within the interior of the building probably represents the site of an excavation trench dug by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1895. Six huts within the settlement were excavated and all of them contained charcoal, although only two hearths were located. One or two were paved but the only artefact recovered was a flint flake.
