A former extractive pit, probably a sand pit, was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and digital images derived from lidar data to the south of Hayne Farm, Stockland Parish. A linear earthwork hollow extending south-west from the pit towards Hayne Lane might be evidence of an access track.
The visible earthwork corresponds with a pit annotated as Old Sand Pit on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. The pit was not depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland, which might support the interpretation that the pit was created and passed out of use between circa 1840 and 1890.
