Depicted on the historic maps, this was originally part of a three bay house built in 1895 at the instigation of Sir Massey Lopes, Lord of the Manor of Walkhampton, as evidenced by his initials above the porch. Moxham’s Garage, next door, was the site of the blacksmith’s forge in the 19th century.

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The Tithe Map shows a long rectangular building aligned north-south at this location. 38 on the apportionment.

The late 19th century historic map shows the building subdivided into three. 'Smithy' is indicated.
