Summary

Cairn and cist 365 metres west of Grim's Grave Cairn. Two end stones and two side stones in position, the coverstone is missing. Cist is 0.72 metres long, 0.5 metres wide and 0.3 metres deep. There may be a small cairn surrounding it.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950/1978, SX66NW37 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV151995.

(18/05/1950) Cist found during routine perambulation. Two end stones and two side stones are in position but the coverstone is missing. The tops of the stones are at ground level Length of northern side stone 1.4m, southern side stone 1m, western end stone 0.6m, and eastern end stone 0.5m. Present depth of cist is 0.3m. There is no barrow/cairn.
(09/09/1978) There is no reason to doubt that this cist is still in position and as planned in 1950 but it was not located during investigation.
It is on a north slope at about 400m OD and currently in an area of thick long grass.
Surveyed position 1950, accepted for 1:10000 PFD.

Kistvaen. Two end stones and two side stones in position, the coverstone is missing. The tops of the stones are at ground level. Length of northern side stone 1.4 metres, southern side stone 1 metres, western end stone 0.6 metres, and eastern end stone 0.5 metres. Present depth of kist is 0.3 metres. There is no barrow.

Butler, Turner and Grinsell all record the presence of a small mound associated with the cist, but this could not be seen despite careful scrutiny.

Langcombe Brook '5' at SX60876641 with a cist surrounded by a possible small cairn. Very little remains of the covering mound of the cist. Four sides of the cist are present with the end slabs tipping inwards. It lies concealed amid the long grass.

This monument includes a cist situated on a north facing slope overlooking the Langcombe Brook. The cist survives as a 0.72 metres long, 0.5 metres wide and 0.3 metres deep stone lined pit aligned east to west. The cist protrudes 0.15 metres above the present land surface, and although no mound is visible it may survive as a buried feature beneath deep peat deposits.
