The Ordnance Survey First Edition 25" map records the ornamental canal with the weir close at its eastern end, and with a footbridge immediately to the north of weir.
An earthwork survey of the weir found it to comprise a three-sided rectangular granite structure with a lightly battered rear, south wall. The battered rear wall, which is 1.5m high and 5.5m long, is topped with granite capping stones that partially survive towards the eastern end. These incorporate iron ties along with a pair of iron fittings which may indicate a hinged metal grill or some other fitting was previously attached to the top of the weir. The east wall rises from north to south and is approximately 6.6m long. At the south end, above the east end of the battered wall, it is constructed of brick, which may indicate an area of repair or modification, although being part of the original structure cannot be ruled out. The parallel west side of the weir is in much poorer condition. Part of the wall has collapsed following the natural blowing over of a tree growing adjacent to the wall. It is possible that further disturbance to this wall took place when the weir went out of use. Capping stones from the west end of the battered wall lie within the confines of the weir. There is no evidence for a second, western brick wall above the rear battered wall. The base of the weir is largely obscured by soil and rubble, but adjacent to the eastern wall is a pair of granite steps that appear to be in situ.
