Summary

A semi-circular or C-shaped cropmark of a possible buried ditched feature, possibly an enclosure of later prehistoric or Roman date, was visible on aerial photographs on the south-east facing slopes below Belfield House, Poltimore.

A semi-circular or C-shaped cropmark of a possible buried ditched feature, possibly an enclosure of later prehistoric or Roman date, was visible on aerial photographs on the south-east facing slopes below Belfield House, Poltimore.
The visible cropmark was on average between 1 to 2 metres wide, defining a space approximately 33 metres across. The possible enclosure appears open to the north-east and there is no evidence it was ever enclosed by a ditch on this side.
Many of the aerial photographs consulted by the survey are copies of DAPs held by the Historic England Archive. In some cases these have been recorded as separate sources. This is because variations in the way the prints have been processed could result in images on which archaeological features are visible to a greater or lesser degree.
