(15/08/1991) SX 6527 8635 Possible boundary marker. Two massive leaning blocks situated on the broad flat ridge running north-west from Shovel Down. The stones, 1.2m high and 3.4m apart, have no obvious trigs or inscriptions. They lie adjacent to a cornditch type boundary (MDV54537) of medieval or later date and are perhaps earlier markers of this division. A hut circle lies 8m to the north-east (MDV54533).
Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., MPP 144088 (Report - Survey). SDV277946.
(1997) Animal poaching between the stones. These may, as suggested by S. Probert (1991), be early boundary stones although the possibility of them having been erected at an earlier date cannot be discounted.

Two features shown on survey.
Cunis, E., 2021, Image of stones on Shovel Down (Photograph). SDV276792.
(01/02/2021) Feature photographed. The stones here have an appearance similar to a Neolithic dolmen. E. Hemery mentions one in his book ‘High Dartmoor - Land and People’ but no grid reference is supplied.
