There are several fresh water springs on the Down, which appears to have been occupied during the later Prehistoric periods as well as by - one presumes - Mesolithic hunter nomads. Flints of Neolithic and Bronze Age type occur in animal disturbances and under ploughed conditions along the 500 foot crest of the hill. These include a fine barbed and tanged arrowhead, a broken leaf-shaped arrowhead, a large number of scrapers, and a retouched fragment of a polished axe. Sea cliff edge of Saunton Down. Topped by hill-wash derived from the down. Most flint implements found south-east of coastguard station, but do occur quarter of a mile iether side of it. Neolithic, Mesolithic and Bronze Age represented.
