Full description

BARROW, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV112828.

Newton tracey historical association has seen documents recording lime purchases from this kiln for 1719 + 1720, when it was tenanted by mr law, then mr lay. May have been fuelled by anthracite from somers hiscott. Church documents indicate that it provided lime for white-washing + pointing st. Peter's church, tawstock (barrow).

Several trees growing on remains; one estimated (by woodland trust) to be c.100 years old (dick).

MILWARD, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV82669.

Catsford or scatsford limekiln. Partially ruined limekiln at approx above ngr (milward).

LEACH + DICK, Untitled Source (Report - Survey). SDV82670.

Vis=3/4/1997 (leach + dick) stone rubble with brick arches. Unusual in having 3 eyes into one pot. An elaborate 'running kiln' which must have been frequently worked. Probably early 18c, concentrically extended 50-70 years later (judging from bricks). The first build with tapered arches, the extension with round arches. The extension on n side has been lost, probably due to tree growth.
