| Name: | DRESSING FLOOR in the Parish of Walkhampton |
|---|
Summary
Vis=-/10/1996 (gerrard) in the area sw of the mill a series of earthworks and other structures have been identified as the dressing floor. These features are much more extensive than as first planned by newman. A number of features which must include buddles, waste heaps and settling pits survive in this area. On the basis of the available evidence it would appear most likely that a series of buddles originally lay at right angles to the retaining wall, with each of these feeding material into a pronounced channel which can be traced leading towards the river. A bank and massively built wall at the s end of the area are undoubtedly also associated with the dressing process (gerrard).
