Summary

Relict field boundaries of probable medieval date with possible prehistoric antecedents are visible as earthworks crossing Meldon Common, defining a continuation of the extant field pattern to the south of Meldon Hall. The banks are clearly identifiable on images derived from lidar data.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1953/1974, SX68SE6 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV273627.

(19/03/1953) Area centred at SX 69658650) Scattered, ill-defined lynchets and field banks in the area which is bracken covered moorland.
(23/07/1974) Bracken of extreme density and height obscures the area so that the recorded lynchets and field banks cannot be investigated.
