Summary
Two mortar emplacements were identified on open moorland near Blacktor. They lie near to each other on fairly flat ground and comprise circular stony banks each linked to two small steep-sided pits set a short distance away. A mortar would have been set up in the circle and the pits used to store the ammunition.These slight earthworks lie in open moorland grassland. Surveyed in 2007.

(12/12/2007) Two mortar emplacements were identified on open moorland near Blacktor (1). They lie near to each other (SX 5706 7182 and SX 57?36 7172) on fairly flat ground and comprise circular stony banks each linked to two small steep-sided pits set a short distance away. A mortar would have been set up in the circle and the pits used to store the ammunition.These slight earthworks lie in open moorland grassland. Surveyed at 1:2500 scale.
NB: Second NGR is suggested incorrect; should be SX 5703 7172 or SX 5706 7172 (Richards, A. F., 11/05/2021).
