Full description

The mill gullet, or sluice situated in the centre of the dam (La Fosse), was widened and extended by 1797 to increase the flow of water into and out of the mill pond. It was extended to a length of 75 feet from the west side of Foss Street, to provide an outlet for the millpond and access to the boat dock. By 1823 when the Ford Stream was culverted, it fed into the mill gullet which had been extended east to Hawkes Slip, now Flavel Street. In 1831 the mill gullet and the boat dock were filled in and the area developed. Map object based on this source.
