Summary

A sub-circular Enclosure 'D' (Butler) containing two hut circles adjacent to the south-west corner of the fence surrounding Venford Reservoir. The enclosure measures 23 metres north-south by 18 metres and is bounded by a turf-covered stoney bank 1.2 metres wide and around 0.4 metres high.

(26/04/1950) Enclosure and hut circles south-west of Holne Reservoir. A small circular enclosure (diameter 64m, wall height 0.2m) containing two hut circles. Walls of enclosure very poor, consisting of small stones and turf, the whole of which does not rise much more than 0.2m above ground level. Entrance not visible. The hut circle is attached to the enclosure wall. No obvious entrance.

(07/07/1977) SX 6807 7054: A homestead comprising an enclosure with two huts lies on a gentle well-drained slope at the east end of a small spur at 335 metres above OD. The circular enclosure, diameter 25 metres has a wall in poor condition about 1.4 metres wide internally faced with orthostats. The two terraced type III huts, average internal diameter 4 metres have south east facing entrances and are built on the line of the enclosure wall. The interior of the enclosure and adjacent hillside is clear of boulders but there is no evidence of cultivation. 1:10 000 survey revised on PFD.

Enclosure 'D' at 'Venford Valley South famsteads' is a relatively well-preserved oval measuring 28.5 metres by 18.0 metres, with a pair of huts attached to the west side of the thin walled circuit.

(18/04/1996) Centred SX 6807 7054: A sub-circular enclosure containing two hut circles adjacent to the south-west corner of the fence surrounding Venford Reservoir. The enclosure measures 23 metres north-south by 18 metres and is bounded by a turf-covered stoney bank 1.2 metres wide and around 0.4 metres high. Inside and adjacent to the west edge of the enclosure are two hut circles (see related record).

Settlement includes at least four enclosures, of which this is the central. Oval. Abuts two earlier huts along its western circuit. A length of curving wall to north-east probably represents an outlying part.
