A 15C medieval manuscript outlining a Confessor's itinerary through the parish of Bere Ferrers mentions a tenement called 'Rumleigh'. It was recorded as 'Romeley' in 1298, 'Rumlegh' in 1311 & 'Romlegh' in 1321. The occupants were probably associated with the local medieval silver mines.

The farmstead has generally been considered to represent the site of the medieval settlement. The List description suggests 16th century origins.
