Whiteway has excellent grounds with views over Dartmoor. White (1850) noted it merely as a ’pleasant seat’ while Stockdale described it as ’a very handsome and spacious mansion situated in a finely wooded valley, sheltered by Haldon, about a mile from the town.’ The 1905, 1906 and 1907 Ordnance Survey maps show extensive parkland south of the mansion with a 'Lawn Tennis Clump'. The parkland is surrounded by large areas of woodland with, to the north, Whiteway Wood, Kidden Plantation and Marsh Plantation containing a whole series of rides/walks. Walled garden. There is a pheasantry to the south in Emridge Wood.
