A series of slight dips in a field to the north of the river clyst at 'ashclyst farm' suggest a field system of six small square enclosures c50m x 75m. The enclosures are not present on the 1842 tithe map + do not seem to be part of a water meadow system so may be of medieval origin (nt).
Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.
The ditches corresponded in part to field boundaries depicted.
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
The field boundaries are not depicted and have therefore probable passed from use.

Former field boundaries of possible medieval origin were visible as earthwork ditches and ridges to the west of Ashclyst Farm on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards.
The visible earthwork ditches correspond in part to field boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Broad Clyst, but include ditches not depicted, interpreted as the remains of boundaries that probably passed out of use prior to the 1840s. The earthworks survived to be visible as ditches on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2005.
