A well is shown on the Ordnance Survey 1:2500 map of 1886 on the south side of the long building on the north side of the road. Fox, writing in 1874, mentions a clear spring of water just outside the (old) school house which was used by many inhabitants and was known as 'the shoot'. The water "flowed through a pipe, causing a tiny waterfall". All traces of the well have gone.
