Preece, C., 2002, Fish Weirs: As Irritating As Traffic Cones (Article in Serial). SDV342210.
Extract from Denham map of 1832 shows fishweirs as chevron-like features. Number 8 is situated to north-west of East Yelland Marsh.
Preece, C., 2003, Fish Weirs Update, 14 (Article in Serial). SDV342261.
Notes location of weir 9, Lower Yelland. Stakes as far apart as 200 metres. May represent different structures, phases of building or one large structure.
Preece, C., 2005, A Conflict of Interests: the Fish Traps of the Taw and Torridge Estuaries, 151 (Article in Serial). SDV342251.
The fish weir near Yelland Power Station (number 8) was located in March 2003. It is a considerable weir, with stakes as far apart as 200 metres. The configuration on Denham's chart suggests a smaller 'V' shaped weir inside the larger one, but no evidence was found of this. May be another interesting variation of type. Other details: Figure 3.
Wessex Archaeology, 2007, RMB Chivenor Flood Defence Scheme Barnstaple, Devon: Archaeological Desk-based Assessment, 10 (Report - Assessment). SDV342125.
Other details: WA 136.
Baines, C., 2009, Yelland Fish Weirs (Personal Comment). SDV342262.
Fish weir referred to as 'Lower Yelland' in the newsletter of spring 2003 appears to be the one listed as 'Yelland Power Station' in the article of 2005, and that of Lower Yelland had not been located.
