'Peppins Howden' marked on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map, comprising a range of buildings grouped around a yard with a pump in the centre. There is a small yard to the north and a paddock or small field to the south with a building in the south east corner.

Peppins Howden together with Howden Court and Howden House (now demolished) have their origins in the pre-conquest manor of Tiverton which was divided post-conquest and further broken up in the 16th century. From the 16th to 19th centuries land at Howden passed through the hands of several citizens of Tiverton with tenants farming at Peppins Howden and Higher and Lower Howden. At the time of the Tithe Apportionment of 1841 Peppins Howden belonged to George Welch Owen, who had apparently occupied it since 1811.
