A semi-circular earthwork depression circa 18m by 15m is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. It corresponds with a small sand pit depicted on the First Edition OS maps, flanking the road to the west. Two further sand pits appear to be depicted adjacent, one of which, an elongated pit against the side of the road, is also visible as an earthwork depression circa 40m by 6m. By the Second Edition OS map only two pits are depicted, one of which corresponds with an earthwork. The pits are situated on the edge of recorded clay, silt, sand and gravel deposits. The depressions are interpreted as evidence of sand extraction of post-medieval to early 20th century origin.
