Timms, S., 1985, An Archaeological Assessment of the Remains of the Quay, Mine and Arsenic Works at Gawton, Tavistock Hamlets (Report - Assessment). SDV352213.

12.3 - Fuller's Shaft noted on sources dated 1895, 1906, 1953 and 1984. Visible.

Buck, C., 2003, Gawton Mine, Devon, 11-12 (Report - Survey). SDV222530.

Fuller's Shaft at Gawton Mine was found to be open in 2003 and it was recommended that it was fenced. Other details: Fig 5.

Buck, C., 2006, Gawton Mine, Devon: Archaeological Assessment, 32-33 (Report - Assessment). SDV344672.

Fuller's Shaft was sunk in 1853, and accessed both Middle and Deep Adits and the main stopes on the eastern part of Main (Copper) Lode, as evidenced by the size of the waste rock outside and down slope of the adit portal. It has been infilled to the surface, as can be seen by looking inside the entrance of Middle Adit, south chamber. There is no evidence of an old shaft marker. Other details: Figures 5-6, 35, site 18.

Clive Meaton, 2023, Gawton Mine, Devon- Costed and Prioritised Proposals for Capital Works for the Conservation and Management of Gawton Mine Scheduled Monument (Redacted Costs Version), 51-53, Photographs 1-3 (Report - Survey). SDV366131.

Fullers Shaft was an important one, accessing both adits and the main stopes (excavated area, resulting from the extraction of ore) in the eastern part of the Main (Copper) Lode. Two shafts and an adit are recorded on the 1867 Bedford Estate Map. In 2006 no surface evidence was found for Fullers Shaft which had been infilled, although it could be seen by looking inside the entrance of the Middle Adit (Site No. 18.2) at SX45545 69089. Two spoil heaps (Site No. 18.3) located at SX 45524 69086 were recorded to the west of the Middle Adit portal (Site No. 18.2). Fullers Shaft was found to be in the same condition as that described in 2006. . The depression in the woodland floor, marking the capped location of Fullers Shaft was barely discernible. Overall, all the elements associated with Fullers Shaft were assessed to be in good condition. The remains of Fullers Shaft and nearby associated features are considered to have medium significance relative to other features and structures on the Site. At present, the location of Fullers Shaft is relatively inaccessible, so should be left undisturbed, with no intrusive ground works undertaken within or about the area. However, should, in future, access to this part of the Site be improved, then consideration should be given to a number of recommendations detailed in the report. The retaining walls, adit opening, and shaft positions should be regularly monitored for signs of any deterioration in condition, or structural failures/collapses. Other details: Site No. 18.
