Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Tawton Mill is depicted on the Tithe Map; 1031 on the South Tawton apportionment: 'Houses, mills and courtyard'. To the south of the mill building is a garden plot, and there are two orchard plots to the south of the road. Two of the southern plots include 'Milkham' in the names (see related record).

Tawton Mills, South Tawton SX 6580 9438. Grist mills operated here from at least 1718, when they are recorded as being owned by the Wyndham family. Put up for sale in 1815 and later let in 1858. Further documentary evidence from the late 19th - early 20th centuries. Milling ceased here in the 1930s.
Mill was converted to residential use in the 1970s and one of the overshot waterwheels was restored as a pitchback (backshot wheel). Other milling machinery noted on site and image of the mill included.
