Shaft shown on the 1867 survey plan as ‘Air Shaft (fenced)’ and on the Ordnance Survey (1884) map as ‘Old Shaft’. The shaft is sited on ‘Delves Kitchen Lode’ and probably provided ventilation to the working levels. The survey in 2003 found the shaft had been filled in with no visible evidence for the location.

Delves Kitchen
A relatively obscure copper working, this was formerly worked for tin in Heath Wood and Little Heath Wood, the mine's name is first mentioned in Elizabeth Cake's tinworks list of 1778, which originated in the mid-late 17th century, before the first copper boom. It's not known what the Tavistock Canal company did with this lode, which was operated as part of Bedford United Mine from the mid-19th century, but it appeared on their lists in the 1810-28 period.

Earthworks associated with post-medieval or 19th century mine workings are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2010. The earthworks comprise a cluster of sub-circular pits and irregularly shaped mounds which measure between 7m and 20m long. The central pit located at SX44417248 corresponds with a square feature labelled as ‘Old Shaft’ on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map.
