Full description

Buck, C., 2002, Devon Great Consols: Archaeological Assessment, 178 Figs 9,38 (Report - Assessment). SDV241758.

A large square quarry shown on 19C maps with a possible building shown on the OS (1884) map at the western end. The quarry may have provided stone for the construction of the railway in 1857-8. The survey in 2002 found the quarry 35m long x 10m wide with a rear wall up to 7m high with no evidence of the building. A smaller quarry is shown on the OS (1884) map to the northeast at SX43417340 & was found to be 20m long x 6m wide x up to 3m high. Other details: Sites 266 & 267.
