Full description
Buck, C., 2002, Devon Great Consols: Archaeological Assessment, 186-7 Figs 22,24,25,38 (Report - Assessment). SDV241758.
A flat rod tower shown on the 1884 OS map to the south of a high retaining wall of a reservoir pond (see PRN 42208) at Wheal Emma. The tower is sited at the highest point of the flat rods & holes for mounting bolts suggest it supported a swinging mechanism. The survey in 2002 found a masonry tower c6.5m high x 1.6m wide with a stone arched opening 1.5m high x 0.9m wide with water running through. A tall arch runs east to west through the tower with timber lintels. Other details: Site 284.

Conservation works are planned as part of the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project, which include repairs to the flat rod tower. Weather erosion has affected the structural stability of the masonry and the timber lintels, which are likely to need replacing. Soft and crumbling mortar will be removed and replaced, and mortar added where there are voids. Other details: Figure 4, site 284.
