The diverted and culverted stream course found running east to west across the southern edge of the Vicarage grounds may have been the 'Litterburn' as shown on Norden's Survey of 1598. According to Venn this stream may have marked the northern extent of any Saxon or early medieval settlement.

Gent, T. H., 2007, Review of the Archaeological Evidence for the Location of the Saxon Minster at Crediton, 5; figure 2 (Report - Assessment). SDV339904.

The culverted stream was exposed during excavations in 1984 and 1991. Evidence from the 1991 excavations suggested successive rebuilding from the medieval to the post medieval period. Map object based on this source.
