The current Lane End Cottage is marked as White’s Plot on the Ordnance Survey 1:10560 1891 map (Sheet 47SE), and is shown on the Ordnance Survey surveyors’ drawing of 1806–7 (45 pt 2). White’s Plot is referred to as Whytsplatt in a document of 1520, suggesting that the site may have medieval origins. The site lies just outside the eastern boundary of the survey area.
