'Pugshole Cottage' is shown on Ordnance Survey 25 inch (1880s and 1906) maps as a small square building with two rectilinear enclosures to the northwest and southeast cut out of Hense Moor. The property is shown as 'Ferndale' on the Ordnance Survey 6 inch (1969) map and as 'Hensemoor' on modern maps.
