Rockside, 1, 2 and 3 Cliff Road. House, now 3 flats. Mid C19. Rendered over rubble basement, Welsh slate roof. Eccentric Tudor Gothic style. Built against cliff with garden at beach level, tall stone basement, two storeys and attic all below road level. Three bays to sea, canted corner, two bay returns and rear wing. Continuous balcony to ground floor with cast iron brackets and railings. Two-storey 3-light bay to right. Mullion and transom French casement to left and corner. First floor has hood moulds to windows and a second balcony, with hood to corner. Attic floor with decorative bargeboards to gables and dormers. Eaves on brackets, gable finials, tall stack. Rear wing plainer in character. Return front with two mullion and transom windows on first floor. Interior (not inspected) has contemporary joinery, fireplaces and plasterwork on ground floor, all of plain character. A very unusually sited and apparently little altered (the staircase will have been affected by the division into 3 flats) Victorian villa of a cheerful seaside character.
Date first listed: 19th April 1989. Date of most recent amendment 19th July 1989.
