Masson Phillips, E. N., 1937, The Ancient Stone Crosses of Devon: Part I, 341 (Article in Serial). SDV240502.

Kingsbridge, in the churchyard, a socket-stone only, against which is leaning a notice stating "Consecrated by the Bishop of Stafford in 1414"

Remains of stone cross (socket stone only).
Site visit on 12th December 1952: this socket stone is octagonal, the top circumference being chamfered. The stone is of granite, diameter 0.9 metres and height 0.5 metres. with rectangular socket. The stone is in good state of preservation.
Site visit on 28th June 1954: socket-stone is on the south side of St. Edmunds church, but the notice board is missing.

Kingsbridge Churchyard SX734444
An ancient socket stone lies in the churchyard opposite the south porch of the church. An octagonal socket stone with a chamfered top edge and a square socket hole. It formerly had a notice board bearing the information - ‘Consecrated by Bishop Stafford 1414’. This notice board has disappeared.
Socket stone 0.81 metres by 0.38 metres high with a 0.10 metres chamfer (octagonal). Socket hole 0.27 metres by 0.22 metres by 0.12 metres deep.

Site visit on 16th July 1986: The socket stone although neglected and hidden under bushes remains well preserved and as described. Other details: SX74SW9; last updated 2005.
