An irregular shaped large earthwork depression circa 100m by 65m is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The depression is situated across two plots, one of which is recorded as 'Marl Pit' under arable cultivation, and the other as 'New Orchard' in the Tithe Survey. It corresponds with the depicted earthworks of 'Old Clay Pits' on the First Edition OS map and subsequent maps. The depression is interpreted as a marl or clay pit of post-medieval origin, part of which passed out of use prior to circa 1840, and part of which passed out of use by the end of the 19th century.
