At domesday, hillesdona formed part of the holdings of odo, son of ganelin. It was held by rainald, before the conquest, sirewald. In 1166, hillersdon and brayleigh were held by william de brailega of william de toriton. In 1241, the testa de nevil shows that it was held by roger de hele and william de hilresdon (reichel,1910). Documented in 1086,1242,1249,1270,1283 and 1291 (mawer et al).
