Full description

Exeter Archaeology, 2005, Archaeological Assessment (Revised) of proposed Wind Farm at Fullabrook, North Devon, 16 (Report - Assessment). SDV340799.

The road that runs north/south to the east of Higher Metcombe is depicted on Greenwood's map (surveyed 1825-6) with milestones, indicating that it was a turnpike road. This road appears to have been disturnpiked once the parallel route down in the valley to the east had been engineered. The road was formerly a track (Ordnance Survey 2 inch surveyors' drawing of 1804-5 sheet 31W). Other details: 161.
