Summary

A shallow gully which may represent a natural watercourse or possibly a boundary ditch which predated the establishement of the plantation. This was not investigated during an archaeological evaluation prior to the extension of the adjacent quarry.

Feature of possible archaeological interest found during fieldwork. A shallow gully, on average 0.3 metres deep and 3 metres wide, running from the south-west boundary at SY03478540 for approximately 75 metres eastwards before petering out. This might represent a natural watercourse or a man-made feature, but its slight nature and the dense tree cover made it impossible to view in its entirety. It could possibly represent the vestiges of an insubstantial boundary ditch predating the establishment of the plantation, although no adjacent bank was apparent. Other details: Site 2.
