North Devon District Council Rescue Archaeology Unit, 1986, Archaeological Evaluation and Research Work, Barnstaple 1985-6, 9 (Report - non-specific). SDV342155.
A watching brief was undertaken to the rear of 7 Bear Street during building construction in 1986. Medieval pottery was recovered at between 0.7 metres and 1 metres depth. Several ash filled pits from the smithy site were excavated.
