Full description

Laithwaite, M., 1978, Workshop at Rear of 25 Higher Street, Cullompton (Report - non-specific). SDV349648.

Site visit 23rd March 1978, immediately prior to demolition. Took three colour slides of the building. No plans were available. The building is part of a two-storeyed, timber-framed range of workshops lying behind 25 Higher Street, and making a right-angled turn at one end to meet the rearof no. 25. The range is weather-boarded with continuous rows of windows in each storey. The first-floor windows are distinctive in being shallow, central, 8-panel bays - they are the only feature which sets the building apart from the general run of its kind. The owner says it was formerly used by a carpenter. Probably mid or late 19th century (though possibly later). No.25 looks about the same period, except that it has some architectural quality and is unlikely to have been intended to have workshops behind it. No.27 has already been demolished as far as it fronts higher street. Rough sketch plan; three black and white photographs attached.

Department of Environment, 1986, Cullompton (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV336339.

Two storeyed rear workshops run parallel to house, returning to meet the rear of the house; weatherboarded with continous glazing to each storey. Four of the first floor windows have 20 leaded panes per light.
