Summary

Farmstead dates to at least the early-mid 19th century, based on cartographic evidence, but may have older origins. A modest farm is shown on the Tithe Map, and marked as 'Wingreen'. Developed in the later 19th century and renamed 'Donore'. By the mid-20th century, name changed to 'Whingreen'. Large house demolished in later 20th century.

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Tithe Map shows a small farm, marked as 'Wingreen' here. 323 on the Cornwood apportionment. Consists of just a small dwelling, with two rectangular farm buildings to the north-west.

The late 19th century historic map shows a newly developed farm, now known as 'Donore'.
Completely changed from the Tithe Map depiction, a large farmhouse has been built to the south-west of the farm, which overlies the site of the old (smaller) dwelling shown on the Tithe Map (the other farm buildings from the Tithe Map are now longer shown).
Also a T-shaped range of farm buildings has been added set close to the dwelling, just to the north-east, with an L-shaped smaller range just to the south. Single isolated building to the north of the T-shaped range.

Whingreen Farm included in survey. Visited during February 1992. Map depiction shows the farm is unchanged from the late 19th / early 20th century map depictions.
Late 19th century house, with possible earlier origins. Range of buildings to the north-east consists of a coach house and stable at the western end, with shippon adjoining to the east and possible stable and calf house at the eastern end of the range. Wing extending to the south marked as a shed / possible calf house.
The L-shaped range to the south consists of a dairy at the western end, with pig houses and an open-ended shelter at the eastern end. The building set to the north is marked as a silage / generator house, all 19th century in date.

The house has been demolished by this time and 'Whingreen Hall' has been built to the south-west of the farm.

The modern map shows the farm buildings remain in some form, although the dwelling is now long gone. 'Coach House' marked; indicates possible conversion of the agricultural buildings.
