One of a number of roofed buildings shown on the 1867 Bedford Estates map close to the water wheel, the flat rod crank pit would have been on the south side of the wheel pit, powering the 'drawing engine' which connected via flat rods to wind, and possibly pump from, Bayly's, Pearce's and Fuller's shafts. Other details: Figure 6, 36, site 24.2.

The 1867 Bedford Estate Map illustrates a number of roofed buildings close to the water wheel pit (Site No. 24) and the Flat Rod Crank Pit was recorded at SX 45369 68951 . In 2006, there was no surface evidence for the Flat Rod Crank Pit and no subsequent visit was undertaken. There was no secure evidence for the Flat Rod Crank Pit. Poor preservation levels are recorded. Other details: Site No. 24.2.
