The 1904 Ordnance Survey map labels the word 'Shaft' near a small square feature and a pair of parallel lines. It is assumed the parallel lines are the end of the incline tramway and the small square feature may be a shaft of unknown depth. This may be associated with the pumping of water from King's Shaft to supply the reservoir at the other end of the incline tramway. There are no visible remains of a shaft at this location however. Other details: Figures 10, 36, site 68.

On the 1904 Ordnance Survey map a ‘shaft’ is labelled relatively close to a small square feature and a pair of parallel lines which are assumed to be the end of an incline tramway and the square feature the shaft. In 2006 there was no sign of a shaft. It was considered that the site may need to be fenced.
The area of the former shaft was not securely located, but is assessed as being in medium condition, given that it is probably infilled, with associated features/deposits buried. Given the lack of visual evidence for the Possible Shaft it is considered to be of low significance, relative to other features and structures within the Site. The area should be securely fenced and left undisturbed. Other details: Site No. 68.
