Full description

Large building only shown on 1884 Ordnance Survey map, shown in a documentary source as a 'weighing store'. There is no evidence for upstanding remains, and it is likely to have been removed when the new incline tramway was built in 1894, however there may be remnants of the lower walls or foundations on the site. Other details: Figures 8, 36, site 69.

Ordnance Survey, 2010, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV344030.

A large building is illustrated at this location on the 1884 Ordnance Survey map, which appears to show the building with solid walls, but not on the earlier 1867 Bedford Estates map or the later 1904 Ordnance Survey map. In 2006 there was no surface evidence of the building, and it was thought likely that the structure was removed when the Incline Tramway was constructed (Site No. 41) in 1894. It was recommended that the site was left undisturbed.
As in 2006, no remains were identified, although buried deposits may survive and these would be assessed as being in good condition. Given the lack of surface evidence for the remains of the mine building it is considered to be of low significance, relative to other features and structures within the Site. The site should be left undisturbed, and no intrusive works permitted. Other details: Site No. 69.
